Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft in these new ‘Tomb Raider’ first look photos

Details surrounding the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot starring Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander have been fairly limited as of recent, with only a few amateur set photos and an official release being the most recent pieces of information. However, thanks to a couple of first-look images courtesy of Vanity Fair, we can finally take a closer look at the new Lara Croft in action.

Surprisingly, the new Tomb Raider film will take a much different approach than what we saw in the 2001 and 2003 adaptations starring Angelina Jolie. Vanity Fair says that “seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually, she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan.”

Originally a video game series, Tomb Raider was first published by Eidos in 1996 and eventually became one of the most popular games of all time before Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to the property before churning out a critically panned adaptation just a few years later. Really, they’re not very good movies. You’re probably just better off sticking to what we’ll be getting from Roar Uthaug with next year’s Tomb Raider.

“When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character,“ Vikander told Vanity Fair. “I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass! She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.”

Vikander has been quite busy over the past couple of years, appearing in multiple different films including The Danish Girl, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, as well as Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller Ex Machina from beloved indie studio A24. Last year, she starred in Jason Bourne alongside Matt Damon, as well as The Light Between Oceans with Michael Fassbender.

With a little less than a year to go, Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 16, 2018.

Just one day after it was revealed that John David Washington had been cast as the lead in Christopher Nolan’s mysterious next film, Variety is back again with some more very exciting casting news regarding this project.

According to the trade, Elizabeth Debicki and Robert Pattinson have also joined the cast of the yet-to-titled film, which is set to be released on July 17, 2020, so mark your calendars accordingly, folks.

While not much is known about the project since it still in the early stages at this point, one insider told Variety that the film is “a massive, innovative action blockbuster” and, like many of Nolan’s previous films, will once again be shown in big, beautiful IMAX.

Debicki absolutely stole the show in Steve McQueen’s star-studded female heist thriller Widows last November and Pattinson has been taking on so many incredibly interesting, complex roles in recent years with films like Safdie brothers’ Good Time and, more recently, Claire Denis’ High Life.

With those two now on board a project that already has the likes of Christopher Nolan and John David Washington involved, I’m already 100% sold on this movie even though I literally no idea what the hell it’s about or what it’s even called. When do tickets go on sale?

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ teaser trailer reveals Tarantino’s star-studded ninth film

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
SONY PICTURES

Yes, the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is finally here. Yes, it’s fucking incredible and everything I was hoping it would be. Yes, I take back everything I said about that god-awful poster Sony released a few days ago. No, I will not stop clicking the replay button.

It’s the summer of 1969 in good ol’ Los Angeles, California where Western TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) are struggling to navigate their way through a Hollywood that they hardly recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor: actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).

While we don’t get to see much of Robbie in this trailer, we do get a hell of a lot of DiCaprio and Pitt, who appear to be having a blast in their respective roles, especially the latter, who we see getting a Kung Fu lesson from Bruce Lee (Mike Moh) at one point—that line about manslaughter damn near killed me!

With a cast that also includes the likes of Al Pacino, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Nicholas Hammond, Luke Perry, Clifton Collins, Keith Jefferson, and Emile Hirsch, it’s tough not to be excited for Tarantino’s latest, which may have just skyrocketed to the top of my most anticipated for the rest of the year list thanks to this trailer.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will hit theaters on July 26. You can check out the newly released trailer below.

Let the hype begin: Variety is reporting that Oscar-nominated BlacKkKlansman star John David Washington has been tapped to star in Christopher Nolan’s secretive new film, with production on the project expected to get underway in the coming months.

According to the story, “Nolan recently finished the script for the movie and Warner Bros. quickly dated it for July 17, 2020,” but, as you can imagine, with this being a Nolan film and all, plot details are being kept very tightly under wraps at the moment.

What we do know is that the film is being described “as a massive, innovative action blockbuster,” which puts to rest those rumors we heard in recent weeks about it being some romantic thriller of sorts. Oh, and did we mention this thing is going to be shown in IMAX? Because this thing is going to be shown in IMAX.

As for Washington’s role, well, we don’t really know much about that either, but Variety does mention that “the gig has become one of the more highly coveted in town,” which makes me so very happy for John David Washington. The dude absolutely killed it in BlacKkKlansman and deserves this opportunity 100%.

That’s all we have for you right now regarding Nolan’s latest, but be sure to stay tuned for any future developments that might come across our desk. You definitely don’t want to be in the dark when it comes to this one.
