Universal has dated Chris Pratt’s long-awaited ‘Cowboy Viking Ninja’ for a June 2019 release

It’s about time.

The long-in-development Cowboy Ninja Viking has had many ups and downs over the years in its transition from an Image Comics graphic novel to a full-fledged studio tentpole. However, with Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, perhaps best known for their work on Deadpool, on scripting duties, and Chris Pratt starring in the title role, it appears we’ll be finally be seeing this project hit the big screen soon enough.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has announced that Cowboy Ninja Viking is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2019, and still has each of the names mentioned above attached to it, with the addition of Michael De Luca, a longtime Hollywood producer and screenwriter, as a producer. Oddly enough, the film still hasn’t found anyone to put into the director’s chair.

So, what exactly is Cowboy Viking Ninja about, you ask? Well, it’s exactly what the title implies. Says Variety:

The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel revolving around an assassin who manifests the toughest skills of three different personas: a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking. The hard-edged actioner laced with attitude is based on the Image Comics graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman and illustrator Riley Rossmo.

We’re definitely down for that. With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom slated to open in theaters next June, followed by Cowboy Ninja Viking just one year later, one could imagine what other types of projects Universal and Pratt have tucked up their sleeves.
