Jennifer Lawrence is a Russian spy falling for a CIA officer in the first trailer for ‘Red Sparrow’

Published

After unsuccessfully trying to get all of those destructive house guests to leave in Darren Aronofsky’s audacious psychological horror tale mother! last year, Jennifer Lawrence is now a master of seductive and manipulative combat, as shown in the first trailer for The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence’s upcoming action-thriller Red Sparrow.

Based on Jason Matthews’ Red Sparrow trilogy, the film follows Dominika Egorova, a young woman who finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence that trains young people to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring an intense training process, Dominika emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced.

While just about everyone in this trailer seems to be sporting a particularly bad Russian accent, with no exception to Lawrence, Red Sparrow seems to have a fairly impressive supporting cast including Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jeremy Irons. Justin Haythe adapted the film for the screen, based on the book written by Matthews.

As for whether or not Red Sparrow is actually just another Atomic Blonde with a different title slapped on the front of it is yet to be revealed, though the trailer does look rather promising if you ask me. I suppose we’ll find out for ourselves when Red Sparrow opens later this year on March 2.

Alicia Vikander fights to survive a deadly mission in an action-packed new trailer for ‘Tomb Raider’

Published

on

It’s no secret that the marketing campaign for the upcoming Tomb Raider adaptation starring Alicia Vikander got off to a very poor start. In addition to releasing a pretty underwhelming first trailer that failed to capture the excitement of many, including fans of the video games series, Warner Bros. also issued a rather poorly Photoshopped one-sheet for the film that people had a field day with over on Twitter.

That being said, the latest trailer for Tomb Raider dropped this morning and, while I’m still not entirely sold on this movie quite yet, our latest look at this action-packed adventure from director Roar Uthaug is a huge improvement over the first trailer and delivers plenty of great new footage.

As per the film’s official synopsis, Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who suddenly vanishes while exploring a fabled tomb on a mythical island somewhere off the coast of Japan. Refusing to believe that her father is dead, Lara leaves everything she knows behind and sets out on a mission to find out the truth behind her father’s disappearance once and for all.

Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West, Walton Gogins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas, and will open in theaters in just two months time on March 16. You can check out the newly released trailer above.

After teasing fans on social media yesterday, 20th Century Fox has finally released a new trailer for Greg Berlanti’s coming-of-age film Love, Simon starring Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Miles Heizer, Logan Miller, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, and Tony Hale.

Based on Becky Albertalli’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the film follows Simon Spier, a 17-year-old who’s yet to his family or friend he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. For Simon, resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying, and life-changing.

Between films such as Edge of Seventeen, Lady Bird, and Call Me by Your Name, it’s been a phenomenal past couple of years for coming-of-age movies and Love, Simon appears to want to continue that magnificent trend; it looks funny, heartwarming, and so very enjoyable in almost every aspect.

Love, Simon will open in theaters on March 16, 2018. Be sure to check out the newly released trailer in the embedded player above and let us know whether or not you’re excited about the film by leaving a comment below.

Joaquin Phoenix tracks down a missing girl in a gripping new trailer for ‘You Were Never Really Here’

Published

Lynne Ramsay’s gripping new thriller You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix is undoubtedly one of my most anticipated movies of the year. The film world premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival last May where it won Best Actor and Best Screenplay and will make its U.S. debut next week at Sundance.

Described as a “powerful assault of a film,” You Were Never Really Here follows Joe, a traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, who tracks down missing girls for a living. When one of his jobs begin to spin out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip—or his awakening.

Not only does You Were Never Really Here look stunning from a visual standpoint, but the performances look absolutely incredible, especially from Phoenix, who seems to be lost in the role of Joe, while Jonny Greenwood’s ambient score is simply mesmerizing. If you’re seeing this film at Sundance next week, consider me jealous.

You Were Never Really Here is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on April 6. Be sure to check out the new international trailer in the embedded player above, and read some of the wonderful things critics are saying about the film here.
