With principal photography set to begin on David Michod’s Netflix original production The King on Friday, the upcoming historical drama, inspired by elements of William Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V plays, has added several big-name stars to the film’s cast before cameras officially start rolling tomorrow.

According to a press release issued by Netflix this morning, Robert Pattinson, Sean Harris, Ben Mendelsohn, Lily-Rose Depp, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie have joined the cast of The King, which already stars Call Me by Your Name Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet and Joel Edgerton.

The King follows Hal (Chalamet), a young, disgraced prince who inherits the crown and must learn what it means to be a king, guided by his one true, Falstaff (Edgerton). Mendelsohn will be playing King Henry IV; Depp will be playing Princess Catherine; Harris will be playing William; Glynn-Carney will be playing Hotspur; McKenzie will be playing Philippa.

Edgerton and Michod wrote the script for The King, which they will also be producing along with Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. The film marks the second time Michod has worked with Plan B and Netflix as the director previously collaborated with the two companies on last year’s War Machine, which garnered fairly mixed reviews.

As for Chalamet, the young heartthrob has two forthcoming projects that are expected to debut in 2018 including Felix Von Groeningen’s drama Beautiful Boy, where he will star opposite Steve Carell, and Woody Allen’s controversial new film A Rainy Day in New York, which, at this point, may not even get released by Amazon Studios.

Just one day after it was revealed that John David Washington had been cast as the lead in Christopher Nolan’s mysterious next film, Variety is back again with some more very exciting casting news regarding this project.

According to the trade, Elizabeth Debicki and Robert Pattinson have also joined the cast of the yet-to-titled film, which is set to be released on July 17, 2020, so mark your calendars accordingly, folks.

While not much is known about the project since it still in the early stages at this point, one insider told Variety that the film is “a massive, innovative action blockbuster” and, like many of Nolan’s previous films, will once again be shown in big, beautiful IMAX.

Debicki absolutely stole the show in Steve McQueen’s star-studded female heist thriller Widows last November and Pattinson has been taking on so many incredibly interesting, complex roles in recent years with films like Safdie brothers’ Good Time and, more recently, Claire Denis’ High Life.

With those two now on board a project that already has the likes of Christopher Nolan and John David Washington involved, I’m already 100% sold on this movie even though I literally no idea what the hell it’s about or what it’s even called. When do tickets go on sale?

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ teaser trailer reveals Tarantino’s star-studded ninth film

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
SONY PICTURES

Yes, the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is finally here. Yes, it’s fucking incredible and everything I was hoping it would be. Yes, I take back everything I said about that god-awful poster Sony released a few days ago. No, I will not stop clicking the replay button.

It’s the summer of 1969 in good ol’ Los Angeles, California where Western TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) are struggling to navigate their way through a Hollywood that they hardly recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor: actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).

While we don’t get to see much of Robbie in this trailer, we do get a hell of a lot of DiCaprio and Pitt, who appear to be having a blast in their respective roles, especially the latter, who we see getting a Kung Fu lesson from Bruce Lee (Mike Moh) at one point—that line about manslaughter damn near killed me!

With a cast that also includes the likes of Al Pacino, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Nicholas Hammond, Luke Perry, Clifton Collins, Keith Jefferson, and Emile Hirsch, it’s tough not to be excited for Tarantino’s latest, which may have just skyrocketed to the top of my most anticipated for the rest of the year list thanks to this trailer.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will hit theaters on July 26. You can check out the newly released trailer below.

Let the hype begin: Variety is reporting that Oscar-nominated BlacKkKlansman star John David Washington has been tapped to star in Christopher Nolan’s secretive new film, with production on the project expected to get underway in the coming months.

According to the story, “Nolan recently finished the script for the movie and Warner Bros. quickly dated it for July 17, 2020,” but, as you can imagine, with this being a Nolan film and all, plot details are being kept very tightly under wraps at the moment.

What we do know is that the film is being described “as a massive, innovative action blockbuster,” which puts to rest those rumors we heard in recent weeks about it being some romantic thriller of sorts. Oh, and did we mention this thing is going to be shown in IMAX? Because this thing is going to be shown in IMAX.

As for Washington’s role, well, we don’t really know much about that either, but Variety does mention that “the gig has become one of the more highly coveted in town,” which makes me so very happy for John David Washington. The dude absolutely killed it in BlacKkKlansman and deserves this opportunity 100%.

That’s all we have for you right now regarding Nolan’s latest, but be sure to stay tuned for any future developments that might come across our desk. You definitely don’t want to be in the dark when it comes to this one.
