‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ synopsis teases the story behind one of the galaxy’s greatest scoundrels

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Is it just me or does it seem a bit strange that a new Star Wars movie is scheduled to be released in just four months and we’ve hardly seen any marketing for the damn thing? I don’t mean to sound pessimistic, but I’m certainly a bit concerned about what’s going on behind the scenes over at Lucasfilm with Solo: A Star Wars Story.

That being said, Walt Disney Pictures released their annual preview kit today, which highlights all of the upcoming releases the studio has coming in 2018, and the studio confirmed that Solo: A Star Wars Story is still, in fact, coming out this May, and they even included a long-awaited official synopsis for the film.

“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy,” the synopsis reads. “Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”

While the synopsis doesn’t necessarily reveal all of the juicy plot details we were hoping it would, it provides a glimmer of hope for this troubled project of a film that has hit a couple of roadblocks over the past few months, including losing two directors last summer in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who decided to step down due to creative differences with Lucasfilm studio head Kathleen Kennedy.

Solo: A Star Wars Story features an all-star cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo, and will open in theaters on May 25. Let us know your thoughts on the film’s official synopsis by leaving a comment down below.

In recent weeks, early estimates from box office analysts predicted that Ryan Coogler’s new Marvel superhero film Black Panther would earn around $100 million or $120 million during its opening weekend. However, as indicated by the new box office numbers that came out on Tuesday, those numbers weren’t anywhere near what the film actually made.

According to Variety, Black Panther earned $242 million from 4,020 theaters over the course of the Presidents’ Day weekend, breaking the record held by Star Wars: The Last Jedi to become the second-highest four-day domestic opening of all time. The film now also holds the record for the top Monday domestic gross ever with $40.2 million—a record previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Meanwhile, Black Panther is also performing exceptionally well overseas, earning more than $184 million internationally for a worldwide total of $426.6 million. The film still has yet to open in Russia, Japan, and China, so expect to see the international total rise to even greater highs in the coming weeks.

Coogler directed Black Panther from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The Marvel comic book adaptation features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

After months of rumors and speculation floating around social media and various news outlets, Variety’s Justin Kroll has officially confirmed that Molly’s Game star Jessica Chastain is in early talks to play the adult version of Beverly in New Line’s highly anticipated upcoming sequel It: Chapter Two.

With production on the It sequel expected to begin this summer, Andy Muschietti, who previously collaborated with Chastain on his 2013 directorial debut Mama, is expected to return to the director’s chair, while Gary Dauberman is currently working on a script. Bill Skarsgard is also expected to reprise his role as Pennywise.

“Jessica is an amazing actress and very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly,” Muschietti said in an interview last year. “She loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with.”

Based on Stephen King’s beloved horror novel of the same name, It grossed more than $700 million worldwide since its record-breaking opening weekend last September, making it the highest-grossing horror film of all time. The film also stars Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Chosen Jacobs.
