Tom Cruise learned how to fly a helicopter for an insane ‘Mission: Impossible - Fallout’ stunt

Published

on

Just in case you needed further proof that Tom Cruise is indeed doing his own stuntwork in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Paramount Pictures has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette showing the 51-year-old actor maneuvering an Airbus helicopter through some pretty rough terrain while doing some pretty insane aerial stunts in the process.

“None of this has ever been attempted before,” director Christopher McQuarrie says in the featurette, and there’s no doubt about that. Cruise went to Airbus, worked around the clock to accumulate more than 2,000 hours of flight time, and was soon on his way to shooting an entire aerial sequence for Mission: Impossible 6 by himself. If that isn’t dedication, then I don’t know what is.

The next chapter in the Mission: Impossible franchise finds Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, as well as some familiar allies, in a race against time after a mission goes terribly wrong. The upcoming film also stars Henry Cavill, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout will open in theaters this summer on July 27, 2018. Be sure to check out the newly released featurette above and let us know your thoughts on Cruise’s insane aerial stuntwork by leaving a comment down below.

If you’re planning on seeing Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated Black Panther next week, pay close attention to the film’s end credits, as you may notice that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen, who will debut a new season of their hit FX series Atlanta next month, are listed in the “Thanks To” section of the credits.

“Donald and Stephen actually gave me notes on a draft,” Coogler told Collider’s Steve Weintraub during an interview at the Black Panther press junket earlier this month. “They came in and read the draft. Right before we started the shoot, and they had some cool insight.”

Coogler said that they didn’t make any changes to the film’s story, but rather helped developed one of the main characters played by Letitia Wright. “We were looking at ways to add a few more character things with specifically Shuri, where she pokes fun at her brother. Donald’s one of the funniest people that I know, so he had some interesting ideas, and Stephen’s crazy talented as well.”

Black Panther hasn’t even hit theaters yet and it’s already one of the most successful movies of the year. It currently has a 98% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and, according to early tracking, could debut to a massive $150 million at the box office during its opening weekend.

With an all-star cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis, Black Panther will open in theaters on February 16.

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ director Ron Howard explains why he took over for Lord and Miller

Published

on

It’s certainly no secret that Solo: A Star Wars Story turned into an absolute mess last summer when directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller left the production with just three and a half weeks of shooting due to creative differences they had with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter-producer Lawrence Kasdan.

The news of Lord and Miller’s departure was shocking, to say the least, and Kennedy had to scramble to find a replacement for the duo in order to meet a strict deadline. Soon enough, Lucasfilm announced that Ron Howard had signed on to take over directing duties on Solo and that filming would resume just a few weeks later.

“I know Chris and Phil. They’re incredibly talented guys, and all anyone at Imagine Entertainment wants to do is find a way to work with Chris and Phil, and that’s every bit as much the case today as ever,” Howard told Entertainment Weekly. “But when I learned that this change was happening, it just came in a moment where I was working on lots of new projects for Imagine, and I had not planned to direct anything last year. So then this came my way, and I was talking to Kathy, and the now tragically late Alli Shearmur, an old friend. I was reluctant, but I also began to feel that I could help.”

He continued, “It’s disappointing that any company ever feels like they have to make a change like that. It’s rough on everybody and disappointing for everybody, and I’ve just tried to come in and — of course, Phil and Chris’s fingerprints are all over the movie, given how much they put into it and the time they put into it. I hope fans won’t even think about how the movie was made. They should just lose themselves in it.”

It’s still questionable as to why Lord and Miller never addressed their creative differences with Kennedy and Kasdan sooner and vice versa, but it’s too late for that now. What’s done is done, and it should be interesting to see what Howard has put together with Solo: A Star Wars Story, which stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton, and Joonas Suotamo, when the film hits theaters on May 25.

‘Isle of Dogs’ first clip teases Wes Anderson’s delightfully charming stop-motion adventure film

Visionary filmmaker Wes Anderson will dive back into the world of animation with the release of his new stop-motion adventure film Isle of Dogs next month, which features the voices of F. Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban, Bud Cort, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Liev Schreiber, Akira Ito, and Edward Norton.

As per the film’s official synopsis, Isle of Dogs tells the tale of Atari Kobayashi, a young boy who sets out on a quest to find his bodyguard-dog Spots when all the canine pets in Megasaki City are exiled to a garbage-dump called Trash Island. With the help of a pack of newly-found four-legged friends, he begins a journey that will ultimately decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

In the first clip from Isle of Dogs, we see Rex (Norton) and his associates fight another group of dogs for a bag filled with moldy rice cakes, rancid apples, a dried out pickle, broken eggshells, and two worm-eaten banana peels, and let’s just say that while the clip is funny and charming as hell, the visuals are absolutely stunning and I’m looking forward to seeing more of this unique world that Anderson has created.

Isle of Dogs also stars Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Scarlett Johansson, Fisher Stevens, Frank Wood, Yoko Ono, Bob Balaban, Courtney B. Vance, Frances McDormand, and Ken Watanabe, and will open in theaters on March 23, 2018.
