Bad news for comic book movie fans: 20th Century Fox is making fans wait even longer for two of its upcoming installments in the X-Men franchise as X-Men: Dark Phoenix is moving from November 2, 2018 to February 14, 2019, which means that The New Mutants, which occupied the February 22, 2019 slot, will now debut on August 2, 2019.
At this point, yes, we should be worried about whatever the hell is going on behind the scenes of The New Mutants, which will reportedly undergo extensive reshoots this summer to amp up the horror-driven elements of the plot and add an entirely new character. Considering the fact that the film was originally set to debut on April 13, 2018, something tells me that there are some much deeper issues at play here—reshoots do not typically set a film back by 16 months.

On the other hand, I’m a little less concerned about Dark Phoenix, and I’m staying hopeful Simon Kinberg’s follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse will mark somewhat of a turning point for this troubled franchise, though I’m pretty sure I said the same exact same thing about Apocalypse before it came out and we all know that movie turned out to be a real dud, so maybe I should just abandon any hope I have for these X-Men movies altogether.
Some of the other titles Fox shuffled around yesterday include the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which has been moved up from December 25, 2018 to November 2, 2018, and the studio’s adaptation of Don Winslow’s crime novel The Force, which was originally set to be released on March 1, 2019, but now has no release date at all.
