‘9-1-1’ Star Exits Series Over COVID Vaccine Mandate


Original 9-1-1Rockmond Dunbar, a cast member of FOX’s series, has resigned due to COVID protocol changes that require all actors to be vaccinated. DeadlineTuesday reports. Dunbar’s character Michael Grant was suddenly cut in Monday’s episode. This was after Dunbar was denied both a religious and medical exemption from the 20th Television vaccination requirements. 

“I applied for religious and medical accommodations pursuant to the law and unfortunately was denied by my employer,” Dunbar told DeadlineAfter his exit, he issued a statement. “My sincerely held beliefs and private medical history are very intimate and personal aspects of my life that I do not publicly discuss and have no desire to start now. I’ve been an actor in this business for 30 years, but my greatest roles are as a husband and father to our 4 small children. As a man that walks in faith, I look forward to what the future holds.”

Dunbar said that he was proud of the four seasons he spent on the hit drama. “I have enjoyed the last 5 seasons with this wonderful cast and crew and will cherish the time I’ve been blessed to spend with this series and wish everyone involved nothing but the best.”

20th Television’s spokesperson also issued a statement.DeadlineThe studio is committed to the safety and health of its employees, according to a report “very seriously,”That is the reason why there are “mandatory confirmation process”For people who work in Zone A, which includes cast members and crew that work directly with them. “In order to ensure a safer workplace for all, Zone A personnel who do not confirm their vaccination status and do not meet the criteria for exemption will not be eligible to work,”The representative continued. 

Grant’s farewell came amid Season 5’s storyline, which had the original 9-1-1Character with his ex-wife Athena Bassett, who handles the rescue and kidnapping of Harry (Angela Bassett). Grant’s boyfriend revealed that he would be going to Haiti as a neurosurgeon to aid in hurricane relief efforts. Grant then proposed and went with him. Athena and his children were informed by Grant about his emotional exit.
