According to a former star’s friend, Strictly come Dancing bosses are known to be quick to strip contestants of their lavish costumes.
This revelation came after Bill Bailey stated that the glitterball award was immediately confiscated from Bailey when he won last season’s show.
He stated: “We got the trophy, then the broadcast ended and all the lights in the studio came up.
“The trophy was requested by a man from the production. He arrived with a black bag. I’m not kidding. He placed it in the black bag.”
Reacting to an article from The Mirror on Twitter, author Melanie Blake said a similar thing happened to actress Gillian Taylforth when she appeared on Strictly in 2008.
She claimed Gillian was stripped of her clothing after she was voted off in week 2 of Strictly’s sixth season.
Melanie wrote: “I was with lovely Gillian Taylforth when she was voted off Strictly so I’m not surprised to hear this as they came to her dressing room the moment the show came off air & took the dress she was wearing off her, it had been like 5 mins, she said ‘do you want my tights as well?!’”
Gillian was kicked out of the show after she lost a dance-off with model Jodie Kidd.
Anton Du Beke, her professional partner in the series, is now one of the judges.
Melanie’s claims were quickly responded to by Strictly fans.
“[Wh]y doesn’t this surprise me,”Fumed one.
“That’s tight,”He laughed a second time.
Bill’s claims about the glitterball trophy attracted other fans.
One of them said: “It is the same with the men and women’s Wimbledon trophies.”
Another told the story of how he found the trophy while house hunting.
He explained: “Wife and I were house hunting in Guildford about 10 years ago.
“The glitterball trophy was found in one property. It was at the breakfast counter.
“The house belonged to one of the professional dancers (female) apparently.”
