After an accident with traffic, body of young woman found in man’s car


A woman’s body was found inside a North Carolina man’s car during the investigation of a traffic accident, according to reports. 

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the body was discovered after Zakreigh Baker (27), rear-ended another vehicle parked at a red light. According to WWAY News, a local outlet.

Authorities identified the deceased as Mallorie Kate McCollum, 23, who was reportedly Baker’s girlfriend, according to the outlet.

According to WWAY News, Baker told police that he was driving McCollum to the hospital at the time of the accident. 

According to reports, McCollum was apparently dead for some time. Here is her obituary listing her date of death the same as Baker’s arrest date.

McCollum’s cause of death has been ruled as an overdose, According to WECT, local outlet 

According to the outlet, New Hanover County sheriffs are investigating her murder, while Wilmington Police Department is investigating the traffic accident.

According to arrest records, Baker is currently charged with driving while impaired, conceal/failure to report a death, driving with a revoked license and habitual impaired driving. 

According to records, he has been given a court date for October 17th and is currently being held on a $50,000 bail.
