After being subbed at halftime, Saul Niguez’s Chelsea nightmare continues

-

Saul Niguez’s Chelsea nightmare continued Wednesday night when he was again subbed off by Thomas Tuchel at half-time.

The Spaniard is currently on loan to the Blues from Atletico Madrid, with Chelsea having the option to keep him at Chelsea until the end of the season.

Saul has only made two Premier League starts this season, and has been substituted at the interval for both matches.

After his September debut against Aston Villa, the Spanish midfielder was only two minutes into league action when he arrived at Watford on Wednesday.

Saul was only able to score 22 goals at Vicarage Road in the first half. Thiago Silva replaced him at half-time, when the teams were tied at one goal each.

Chelsea had attracted interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona for Saul’s services in the summer, but he has struggled to find work in England.

Only three times has he made a start for the club. One was in the EFL Cup against Southampton. This match was his only 90-minutes for Chelsea.

The other appearances he made were all substitutes. Two of his appearances in the Champions League and one in the League Cup left him with seven matches.

It is not clear if Saul will stay at Stamford Bridge through the end of the season, or if he will travel to Spain earlier than expected due to his insufficient game time.

Tuchel’s team had led Watford through Mason Mount. However, Emmanuel Dennis equalized the score just before half-time.

While the match was delayed by more than half an hour, a fan was treated in the stands by medical staff.

Substitute Hakim Ziyech won the victory for Chelsea in the 72nd minute. This maintained Chelsea’s one-point lead at the top.
