Al Roker Appears on ‘Today,’ 4 Weeks after Medical Scare

Al Roker surprised everyone by appearing on “Today”Monday morning

Four weeks after first seeking medical attention due to worsening blood clots, the beloved meteorologist called from Manhattan to update viewers on his health.

Roker, now 68 years old, appeared gaunt but did not lose the humor and wit that have made him so beloved by millions of morning viewers over the last three years.

Roker had to cancel his two most beloved events of this year: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the annual lighting the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

“I’m a very fortunate person,”Roker spoke Monday shortly after he returned from the hospital. “Every day, I feel a little bit better.”

Roker was previously able to return home after Thanksgiving, but was forced back into the hospital for an extended stay. His friends Savannah Guthrie (Hoda Kotb), Dylan Dreyer (and Craig Melvin) told him that it had been difficult to recover from the setback.

“This has been the hardest one yet. And you know, I’ve had my fair share of surgeries,” Roker explained. “But it gives you a profound sense of gratitude for this outpouring of prayers and thanks. I’m a very fortunate person.”

Roker announced that he would be returning to the podium on Monday. “Today”This is still a long way away. “I’ve got to just get my strength back,”Roker spoke to his colleagues. “And in the meantime, I was thinking in January of getting my knee replaced, so I’ve got to push that back. So I’ve got a number of issues.”

Roker said he is committed to getting healthier and stronger, and only then will he make his big return.
