Anthony Martial’s underwhelming Manchester United career could be coming to an end after his agent confirmed the forward wishes to leave the club.
Sky Sports News confirmed that the 26-year-old Frenchman is dissatisfied with the amount of game time being given to him this season by the Red Devils.
Martial has spent over six years at the club but has failed to hit the heights expected of him, having won the Golden Boy award at Monaco in 2015.
And a clause in his contract that stated United would have to pay Monaco an additional sum on top of his initial £50million fee is a great indication of just how far Martial has failed to reach expectations.
That clause was if Martial won the Ballon d’Or.
Fast-forward six seasons and the clause is almost laughable due to the player being so far off winning the prize.
Martial has netted just five Premier League goals since the start of the 2020/21 season while Robert Lewandowski scored 57 in the same period and still finished runner-up to Lionel Messi.
The clause at the time seemed like a “realistic” possibility for the French side, for whom Martial scored nine Ligue 1 goals in his breakthrough season.
Monaco agreed to sell the winger in 2015 under the conditions that United paid an extra £7.2million in bonuses if he went on to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy in the future.

But his United career is set to end with a whimper after making just seven league appearances this season.
Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports: “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.
“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”
