Antonio Conte explains what he learned from Arsenal after Tottenham dropped points vs Brighton

-

Antonio Conte discussed his preparations to lose Saturday’s Premier League match at Brighton by 1-0. This was one week after Arsenal beat Arsenal 2-1.

Antonio Conte, Tottenham manager has admitted to having looked through Arsenal’s defeat at Brighton to find tactical insights. But he lost to the same opposition.

Spurs lost to Leandro Trossard’s late winner in Saturday’s lunchtime match. This result leaves their hopes of reaching the top four in the Premier League in the balance. The Seagulls were ranked 10th on the table after winning 2-1 at Emirates.

Trossard was among the Gunners’ scorers alongside Enock Mawepu and Martin Odegaard. However, Trossard’s late goal was only a consolation. Conte had hoped for some knowledge on Brighton and was watching the game back. It was therefore no surprise that his side failed to beat Graham Potter’s well-trained outfit.

“A difficult game, a difficult game,”The Spurs boss said it. BT SportAfter the match. “We knew this and I had seen the game against Arsenal and knew what could happen today from a tactical aspect. It was a very tactical game, from one side to the other side. I think at the end a draw was the more fair final result but at the end it was Brighton who won the game and they deserve it. They deserve to win, it was a difficult game for us.”

Conte was gracious in his defeat but suggested that his team may not have been able to withstand the scorching midday heat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Italian stated: “We started very slowly, in this type of game, a tactical game, you have to move the ball quickly, you have to try and find the right space and attack the goal. Today we did everything too slow, maybe the weather, spring, I want to find an excuse, but for sure it wasn’t a good game for us.”

Whatever the reason for Tottenham’s defeat to Tottenham, Conte knew that he and his team had much to learn. “I said before it was a tactical game, Brighton were good to close the space, and counter-attack, move the ball more quickly than us in possession,”He stated.

“But for sure this type of game, you understand you can win, you’re not to lose. This is a lesson for us to learn after this game. There are many games where you understand it isn’t your day, you must pay more attention to not lose.”Tottenham could get their top four push back next Saturday when they make the short journey to Brentford.
