The Gunners are widely expected to continue their overhaul of Mikel Arteta’s squad when the summer transfer window opens despite laying out a record £150million last year. Two players could also be leaving the club, which could give Arteta a boost in his transfer fund to pay for improvements to his squad.

Arteta is being warned by William Saliba, that he won’t accept the role of a benchwarmer in his return to Arsenal after his stint at Marseille. Arteta is being reminded again by Arsenal of the need for a new striker.

Arteta sent stark reminder

Arsenal sent Mikel Arteta another stark reminder that Arsenal must spend in the summer transfer windows on a top centre-forward.

Ex-captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona as a free transfer on January 31st. The Gunners look set to lose Alexandre Lacazette, and Eddie Nketiah at the end. This has resulted in Darwin Nunez, Benfica’s highly-rated forward, being linked to the club. Nunez was excellent for his club in Friday’s loss to Braga.

Coming on at half-time, Nunez halved the deficit from the penalty spot before setting up fellow substitute Joao Mario to equalise just three minutes later to show just why Arsenal need to meet Benfica’s £67m asking price.

Saliba warns

According to the defender, William Saliba is not content to be a benchwarmer after his return to Arsenal.

The French young centre-back made his international debut against Ivory Coast in Friday’s 2-1 win. He wants to compete for a spot in Qatar 2022 World Cup squad. Saliba is aware that he must continue playing first-team football if he wants to retain his place in the squad. This means that he might need to end Ben White’s formidable defensive partnership with Gabriel this summer.

Mikel Arteta, the defender, has warned that he will not be content to sit on the bench after his loan at Marseille is over.

Gunners set for £15m boost

Mikel Arteta could be handed a £15million boost ahead of the summer transfer window as he continues his overhaul of his squad.

Arteta stated that he is keen to bring in two forwards and one centre-midfielder for the Gunners in the summer transfer window. Two fringe players, Lucas Torreira (departure) and Konstantinos Mvropanos (departure), could boost Arteta’s transfer funds.

Reports suggest Fiorentina would like to to turn Lucas Torreira’s loan deal into a £12.5m permanent one, while Stuttgart could pay £2.5m to sign Mavropanos permanently.
