Arsenal’s preseason schedule, as Gunners go to USA

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, is going through a personal test. He is trying to convince William Saliba, a wantaway centre-back that north London is his future.

Although the Gunners have yet to make their Premier League debut, the young French defender will link up with the club in the pre-season after a successful loan spell at Marseille. Saliba was a consistent performer throughout his year in Ligue 1 and made his debut for France in the national team. However, there is renewed speculation that he could leave Arsenal this summer to find regular first-team soccer.

This comes after the Gunners had secretly held transfer talks with Lisandro Martinez (Ajax defender), where they discovered how much money it will cost to secure the signing this summer of the Argentine defender. Gabriel Jesus will have to answer Mikel Arteta’s crucial question about his best position, before Arsenal sign the Brazilian ace.

These are the details Mirror Football’s The latest Arsenal headlines.

Arteta faces personal test

Mikel Arteta has one of his most difficult challenges: convincing WIlliam Sliba to stay with Arsenal.

The loan spell saw the centre-back help Marseille qualify for the Champions League next season. This summer, the French side are said to be interested in signing the defender permanently. Reports suggest the French outfit could offer £25million to sign Saliba, although Arteta has already stated his desire to keep hold of the player.

The Arsenal boss views Saliba as potentially being one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League – and he will need to convince the Frenchman he can achieve that if he stays at the club.

Meeting for secret transfer

Arsenal learned the price of Ajax defender Lisandro Martnez during secret talks with his representatives.

The Argentine centre-back has been widely linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, although the Gunners may have to part with £42million to secure his signature. The club has already had a £25milion bid rejected as Mikel Arteta looks to add further depth to his options in defence.

Although the Gunners still have interest in the player, they may face stiff competition from Manchester United. Manchester United’s former boss Erik ten Hag manages Martinez’s Ajax team. They have also been in contact with the player’s representatives.

Jesus has a question for you

Gabriel Jesus will be in a position to demonstrate his best position if he moves to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta hopes that the Brazilian will lead his attack line after the departures Pierre-Emerick Auabameyang, Alexandre Lacazette. However, he is not an orthodox central striker in Manchester City or Brazil.

Jesus has been a regular right-winger for club and country but he will be able to see his future as a striker, given the time Arteta has given him. This will give the Brazilian an enormous opportunity to prove that he is capable of handling City’s dumping of him in favor Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland.
