Artist Mundano makes a huge mural using ashes from Amazon Fires in Brazil

-

Mundano, a Brazilian artist has created a large mural using unconventional materials. The ashes of fires in the Amazon were used to create a picture of a firefighter standing amid the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

Mundano went to areas of the Amazon destroyed by fires. Mundano met with local firefighters and collected the raw materials necessary to create his street art.

The creation, measuring 1,000 square meters, is on display at Sao Paulo. It’s a combination of art and activism, or “artivism,” that Mundano hopes will draw attention to what’s been happening in the Amazon.

In August, some 28,000 fires were observed in the world’s largest rainforest.

Amazon is seen by many as a critical hedge against climate changes. But environmental groups fear that at the rate things are going, there won’t be much Amazon left.

The mural, which towers over its surroundings, was inspired by this looming disaster. One that its artist hopes will call attention to the problem before it’s too late.
