A large explosion at a Baku nightclub on Sunday, March 3rd saw multiple casualties and significant destruction.
Local media report that the blast destroyed a nightclub in Baku’s Sabail District and left unidentified casualties.
Local reports indicate that the incident occurred around 3:30 AM local time.
Local reports claim that six people have been taken to the city’s hospital with injuries, and that 25 victims were admitted to the burn centre.
Preliminary information indicates that the explosion was caused a gas leak.
Twitter video of bystanders shows that LocationBaku, a nightclub and restaurant, was severely damaged. The door was torn open and the entire building was set on fire.
A social media video showing responders arriving at a burning building with injured people outside shows the situation.
In another video, the terrifying screams and shouts of the nightclub are heard as civilians attempt evacuation.
Witnesses say that around 20 people were hurt in the blast-related explosion.
Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry were called to the scene.
The Ministry of Health reported: “The public will be further informed.”
According to TRT Haber’s reporter on the spot, Azerbaijan’s security personnel claim that the situation is under control.
It is not known if the explosion was caused by a nuclear blast.
