Camilla receives first Meghan pre-Megxit position from Queen

The Queen has officially given Camilla, Duchess, of Cornwall, her royal title. This is the first Meghan Markle role since she left The Firm.

Many of their patronages seemed to be in flux after Prince Harry and Meghan announced their retirement from their roles as working royals at 2020’s start.

The process of reassigning them has begun, with Camilla being appointed Royal Patron of the National Theatre by Her Majesty.

This follows a recent trend in which the Queen has given her daughter-in law more responsibility.

She announced last month that Camilla will be the Queen Consort after Prince Charles takes the throne, marking her historic Platinum Jubilee.

Camilla, a well-known supporter of the arts, is a perfect fit for this role. The National Theatre says they are thrilled by the move.

Rufus Norris, director and joint chief executive of the National Theatre, said: “It is a privilege to welcome the Duchess of Cornwall as the National Theatre’s Royal Patron.

“The duchess shares our belief that theatre enriches our lives in so many ways and that everyone should have access to the arts and creativity no matter where they are in the world.

“The duchess has shown great support to our industry throughout the pandemic, and I look forward to working with Her Royal Highness for many years to come.

“I would also like to express my thanks to the Queen for Her Majesty’s long and unwavering support and service to the National Theatre.”

Since its inception at the Old Vic in 1960s, the National Theatre has had a long-standing relationship with the Royal Family.
