The star-studded Chelsea team that started the Premier League season is beginning to look a little less strong early in 2022.

Although the Blues remain in contention to win the four traditional prizes, they also have the Club World Cup in February. However, Thomas Tuchel is a bit short due to injury issues and Covid-19 cases.

Chelsea still undecided over Digne

According to Alex Crook of TalkSport, Chelsea are still undecided on whether to meet Everton’s £30 million valuation of Lucas Digne.

Rafael Benitez has indicated that the manager wants him to leave Goodison Park. Although the Blues are believed to have been linked to the France international, West Ham United and Aston Villa are also said be involved.

Newcastle United is also said to be interested in Everton. However, Digne is reported to doubt the possibility of Everton moving to St James’ Park.

Chelsea currently lacks the left flank. Ben Chilwell will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Atletico eye Azpilicueta

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport WitnessAtletico Madrid has been looking at Cesar Azpilicueta.

This week, the Spanish champions sold Kieran trippier to Newcastle United. They now have a gap to fill in on their right side.

Azpilicueta’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end the season, according to reports.

Atletico want to make a January transfer for the 32 year-old. However, the Blues legend said that he wouldn’t be making any decision until after the campaign ends.

Dest is an option in Chelsea

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport WitnessBarcelona is considering letting Sergino Dest, a reported Chelsea target, leave the club in January.

The United States international is “no longer an essential player”Under Xavi Hernandez, it is said that the full-back isn’t looking to leave the Camp Nou.

Dest has represented Barcelona on both the right- and left-side of defence. Given the injuries in their full-back positions, a player like him would be an asset to the Blues.

They will, however, need to provide an “exorbitant offer”If they want to take Dest from La Liga this month, they will need to move forward.
