The Cheltenham Festival offers punters an excellent opportunity to place value bets at reasonable prices.
Last year’s meeting saw several winners score with large odds. Jeff Kidder, who was 80-1 to win, was one of them. Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.
Heaven Help Us (33-1), struck with a strong front-running performance at the Coral Cup. Belfast Banter was also on the mark, but lost out in the County Hurdle.
Vintage Clouds, a popular grey, was a 28-1 scorer, while Porlock Bay, a 16-1 scorer, took the ‘Gold Cup For Amateur Riders’, the hunter’s chase.
Cheltenham has more places than usual, so racing fans have a great opportunity to back a double-figure-priced competitor.
This is especially true for the larger fields, which are more likely to surprise with unexpected results.
These are five runners who could be rewarded for each-way backers during the week.
AdagioChampion Hurdle (16-1)
The reigning champion Honeysuckle will not be everyone’s cup, despite the fact that her claims are clear.
Adagio is a good choice for people who want to back a horse each-way in the Champion Hurdle.
David Pipe’s runner holds a Cheltenham record at 2212, which includes a second place in the Triumph Hurdle last year, so his track form has been strong.
Given that it was his first run since November, his narrow win against Goshen at Wincanton was very encouraging.
His preparation is going well, but he could use more effort.

Whatdeawant– Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle (25-1
Whatdeawant, who was the 2-1 second favourite, did much better when he finished fifth in Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle.
It might not be wise to rate him based on this performance. He was a good hurdler before that, and we should not forget that he beat Naas winner Ginto in a thrilling last term.
Willie Mullins has rehabilitated him since then, some good spring ground will be in their favor and he is now owned by the Ballymore sponsors.
It’s not surprising that this six-year-old, who was not a seasoned gambler, did better than his 25-1 odds.
Diesel D’AllierCross Country Chase (16-1)
Tiger Roll will be all eyes here, but he’s only 12 years old and hasn’t won this unique race since 2010.
Backers have a lot to choose from if they want to back Diesel D’Allier, the cross-country specialist who will be racing in this race in top form.
Richard Bandey won the race and distance at his last sighting. This was only Richard’s second start. He had the horse trained by Emmanuel Clayeux in November 2021.
This six-time winner could have more as he adjusts to life in Bandey’s Hampshire yard.
Diesel D’Allier, a versatile ground-wise driver, has two wins from four laps around the track and is a strong player in each direction.
Rosy redrum – Champion Bumper (20-1)
In the past ten years, the Champion Bumper prize has been won by five double-figure price winners, two of which were 25-1.
Rosy Redrum might be the filly that layers underestimate.
She was too tired to run in the Newbury bumper last time, and Milton Harris, her trainer, said at a Cheltenham preview in north London last night that the filly has been doing very well in the buildup.
As a 4-year-old filly she is eligible for all allowances. She will also be able to dry her own ground.
Bowtogreatness – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (50-1)
Recent years have seen a winner of the Albert Bartlett at 50-1 and two winners at 33/1.
This race is for young horses and tests their stamina.
Bowtogreatness, owned by Harry Redknapp is a horse that could easily carry on that trend.
Ben Pauling’s six-year old, who is steadily improving, was able to ignore a penalty and win a Leicester novice with any amount of money last time. It showed a very likeable attitude.
He was bred to enjoy a greater distance and he does.
