The Bears will be receiving a 2022 second round draft pick and a twenty23 sixth-round selection in return. Ian Rapoport, NFL NetworkThe trade will not be completed until Mack passes a physical, and his contract has been reworked. The official announcement of the trade cannot be made until March 16, the beginning of the league year. Mack, 31, has spent his last four seasons with Bears, after having previously played with the Oakland Raiders. Mack suffered a foot injury in 2021 and was unable to play in seven of the remaining games. Mack collected six sacks in those seven games, which is second-lowest total of his career.

“With him, it’s been the last several weeks just trying to get right,” former Bears head coach Matt NagyMack’s injury was discussed back in November. “I think we did everything as far as trying to attack it the right way with him, and I know he’s put a lot of time and energy in trying to get back and see where things are at. But this is where we’re at. I know he’s frustrated because he’s such a competitor. But this is the best thing for him and the best situation to be able to help him out and get it fixed.”

Mack was a Bears player for four years and recorded 36 tackles as well as 35 tackles for loss. Mack was a Raiders’ defensive player for four seasons, accumulating 40.5 sacks along with 68 tackles. Mack was selected to the Pro Bowl six different times, and the All-Pro Team four more times. He was also named Defensive Player-of-the-Year in 2016. He was also a member the 2010s All-Decade Team. The Chargers wanted to add another pass rusher in order to assist Joey Bosa who had 10.5 sacks by 2021. Bosa’s 2016 league debut saw him record 58 sacks as well as 73 tackles.
