Authorities say that a California teacher hid a missing student from high school for almost two years in her California home.
According to a statement Holga Olivares (61), was taken into custody on Thursday by Rancho Cordova Police Officers.
She is employed by the Sacramento City Unified School District and works at a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school, police said.
She was charged with detention of a minor with intent to conceal from a parent and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the police department said.
Online records indicate that she is being held at Sacramento County Main Jail, but without bail.
In June 2020, the boy was reported as missing. The department stated that police could not locate him.
“On March 11, 2022 — nearly two years after being reported missing — (the teen) inexplicably returned home. After a thorough investigation, Olivares was arrested,”According to the statement of the department.
Officials didn’t say how or why this teen, now 17, went to live with the teacher.
Local media reports claim that the teen and the son of the teacher were friends. According to local media reports, the missing teenager returned to his family in March after telling his family that he was staying with a friend.
Olivares has been placed on administrative leave, the Sacramento City Unified School District said in a news release.
“The charges filed are for acts unrelated to the employee’s assigned duties. The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a District investigation. As this is a personnel matter, Sac City Unified has no further comment,”According to the statement.
