Dan Walker’s personal reasons why he never works on Sundays

-

BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker has discussed his Strictly Come Dancing experience with professional dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova while appearing on Loose Women. As they discussed Dan’s experience on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, Ruth revealed: “We had been talking about you – we ended up doing a topic because of something you said about your faith and you didn’t want to work on Sundays and that you devote that day to your family.

Dan and his professional dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova appeared on Loose Women to speak with panelists Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter, and Gloria Hunniford. “I don’t know if you ever heard that we had been talking about that.”

Dan confirmed that he had seen that discussion and Ruth added: “That’s something that’s really close to your heart isn’t it?” He responded: “Yeah and, can I just say thank you as people often look at that and treat it very negatively but I think you did it really sensitively.”

Dan continued: “The way that I look at it is I work hard six days a week and my sister’s a nurse in intensive care and she works on Sunday but it’s a choice I made a long time ago to try and set that day aside to spend that day with my family and church and doing things slightly differently.”

He added: “It’s not something that works for everybody but it really works for me and I think it gives me a really good perspective. Wherever I am with busy stuff all over the place, I’ll be there on a Sunday and that’ll be a day we spend together as a family. No one at Strictly ever does anything on a Sunday anyway, so it’s not like I’m missing out on anything, but for me, it helps me tick and keeps me going.”

He confirmed that Nadiya had not demanded him to take part in any training on a Sunday. On Dan’s dedication, Nadiya commented: “He works so hard, hardly sleeps, waking up at 3 am, but every day he comes to rehearsals and gives me 100 percent. But he fell asleep yesterday!”

For this weekend’s movie week, Dan and Nadiya will be dancing the foxtrot to Once Upon a Dream from Sleeping Beauty, with Nadiya in the role of Princess Aurora and Dan in the role of the Prince. The pair proceeded to groove along to the song as sung by Dan before Ruth had to cut them short due to the program running out of time.

Will Dan and Nadiya make it through to the fourth week of live shows? The previous week saw EastEnders alum Nina Wadia eliminated from the show. Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6.45 pm on Saturday on BBC One with previous episodes available on BBC iPlayer.
