Why Clackers were Taken off The Market

After reports of children getting hurt while playing with Clackers, they were removed from shelves once more. The new plastic balls, just like the old glass balls used by toy-makers, had a tendency shatter when they were hit too hard or too often.

The Clackers Make a Comeback

In the ’90s, Clackers made a comeback with a new design. The toy’s structure was also modified to switch to a shatter-resistant plastic. Instead of having two balls at each end of the rope, the Clackers of the future were made from a plastic handle that had smaller balls attached to it with triangular plastic pieces.

The Clackers that many Gen Xers remember are no longer on the market, but this new TikTok shows that there are plenty who remember the dangerous toy fondly—and plenty of Gen Zers wish they had a set!
