Emmerdale fans went wild during the latest episode when a scene with Lydia Dingle caused a technological surprise in their own homes.

Lydia (Karen Blick) was making a Christmas cake and asked Alexa for ingredients – and it seems the smart device is sensitive enough to pick up commands from television.

As the robotic voice read off a list of ingredients, Kim Tate (Claire King) arrived back at Home Farm and Lydia was quick to ask the tech helper to stop.

But viewers at home rushed to Twitter to see if anyone else’s Alexas had gone off as well.

One person said: “Anyone else’s Alexa just set off?” as another replied: “Yep, twice.”

Someone else tweeted: “Anyone else’s Alexa waiting expectantly for further instruction?” with a laughing emoji.

A fourth laughed: “My Alexa has woken up thanks Emmerdale.”

While someone else moaned: “Stupid Lydia has set my Alexa off.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Lydia was left worried she’d be homeless for Christmas, as she’s currently bunking with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

But when she asked them about it, they felt so guilty that they made it clear she was more than welcome to stay with them for Christmas – and as long as she wanted to after that.

The bumbling character has been pushed out of the Dingle inner circle after she reported Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) after she discovered evidence that could link her to the murder of Ben Tucker.

Fans know that serial killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) is the real killer, however Liv had a raging argument with Ben, which he filmed on his phone, with the video being discovered after his death.

Liv is currently behind bars after Lydia broke “Dingle code” by reporting her to police.

But will either of the Dingle ladies have a happier 2021?

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays, on ITV
