Luke Cowan-Dickie and Anthony Watson, the Lions’ duo, are ruled out due to long-term injuries
Jamie George was last night rushed into the England squad, after Eddie Jones sustained a double injury to his hand.
Jones confirmed that Luke Cowan Dikie sustained ligament injury to his ankle playing Saturday, twenty-four hours after the Saracens hooked was removed.
England’s bulletin deteriorated when Bath wing Anthony Watson was later ruled out due to a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament.
Watson will be absent from the Six Nations autumn and Six Nations campaigns. Joe Marchant of Harlequins has replaced Watson.
Stuart Hooper, Bath’s chief executive, has admitted to: “We are all feeling Anthony’s disappointment right now.”
Maro Itoje was also injured in the shoulder, but Saracens claim that the injury is not serious and that it will be able to be repaired. “should not”England’s impact
George scored two tries against Sarries in their rout of Bath. He played with a controlled fury that convinced Mark McCall that McCall would recall him. Eddie Jones releases FOUR World Cup Finalists and gives Marcus Smith the future
It was surprising to many that it took so long, but Jones was able to get across his message about how he expects players like George to do more in their third World Cup cycle.
“They need to regenerate and rejuvenate,” he said. “They need to add things to their game if they’re going to continue to the next World Cup.”
George, 30 years old, will join the squad next week for a five-day training camp in Jersey, just before the November Tests against South Africa, Australia, and Tonga.
Jamie Blamire is the strong competition for his starting spot. He won his first two caps this summer and responded with four attempts.
Dean Richards, Newcastle boss, said: “Jamie is relatively new to hooker and is still learning the set-piece.
“But I can’t see a hooker in English rugby who is as good as him around the park and who has as big an impact. His impact off the bench has been absolutely massive for us.”
Watson’s absence opens the door to Adam Radwan who, like clubmate Blamire, delighted Jones by scoring a hat-trick on his first England start against Canada.
“I saw a kid who came into England camp who basically had fallen into rugby, been knocked back, fought his way back into the Newcastle team, got some opportunities to score tries, and now is really focused,” According to the Australian.
“There’s a strong level of desire about how Adam wants to keep improving as a player. If he keeps that going, you don’t know where he could finish up. He could end up the best winger in the world.”
