Fallen Tree in Maine Campground Kills Young Girl

A Maine thunderstorm on Thursday caused a fall tree to kill a 9-year old girl. According to Bangor Daily News

The little girl was parked in a car at Sebago Lake Family Campground, Richville Road in Standish, where her family was camping.

Capt. Donald Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Foss stated Thursday night that 15,000 Maine residents were left without power due to heavy rains and winds. This caused roads to become clogged with debris and trees. Rescuers had to wait until the scene before they could reach the scene.

The area around the campsite was heavily damaged, including the family’s camper and two cars.

According to the captain, rescuers, the child’s family, and nearby campers used chainsaws, tractors and the Jaws of Life to clear away trees and free her from the car.

Foss claims that the child succumbed on the spot.
