Musically, only one state reigned supreme!

After contestants from all 50 states, four territory and Washington D.C. vied for the chance at songwriting glory, American Song Contest finally picked a winner on the May 9 episode. 

The festivities began with performances by the show’s hosts. Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg. Kelly performed “Whole Lotta Woman,” which pays tribute to her Texas roots, Snoop performed “Who I Am? (What’s My Name).”

It was now time to get to work.

All ten finalists performed their original songs one final time—except for Washington’s Allen StoneThe reason he couldn’t participate was because of “personal reasons”—in a last chance to grab votes from the juried panel and viewers at home.

Voting was being tabulated in real time throughout the show.

Highlights include Grammy Winner Michael BoltonWith his song, he represents Connecticut, his hometown. “Beautiful World,”Former The Voice winner Jordan SmithRepping for Kentucky with his ballad “Sparrow”Tennessee country crooner Tyler BradenPerformance of “Seventeen.”
