Florida Two Suspects Are Criminally Charged after Boat Balloon Popping Video Goes Viral

After a viral video of dozens of balloons being popped from a Miami boat, two suspects were arrested. The balloons fell into the water below.

The incident happened in Biscayne Bay, and the guy taking the video couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Gotta love Miami charter boats. Let’s throw a party, pop every single balloon on the bow of the boat just right into the water,”The stunned bystander replied.

Dozens upon dozens of rubber balloons could be seen floating in the air.

Tom Rivas chartered a boat to propose to his girlfriend. He claims he didn’t know how the staff would dispose of the balloons, and was only able to find out about it after the fact.

“It certainly was not the right thing to do. It’s something that we and I do not condone,” Rivas said.

Martina Gaspoz, 26 years old, and David Torres Bocanegra, 29 years old were both charged with felony neglect for the environment

“They basically littered our bay, our blue treasure here, with hundreds of balloons. And that’s what was so alarming,”George A. Perez, interim chief of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Each of the suspects faces thousands in fines and possible imprisonment time if they are convicted.
