According to reports, a North Carolina woman was arrested for attempted murder after she allegedly tried to castrate her adopted 5-year-old stepson.
Bracey Renee byrd (33), is also facing other charges related to the alleged abuse of the young child. WNCT-TV reported.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office received a referral from the Wilson County Department of Social Services on July 29 in reference to possible child abuse reported by Wilson Medical emergency department, starting the abuse investigation, according to WNCT-TV.
Authorities said that the medical center’s report stated a child was brought in with third-degree burns and indicated the wound did not appear to be self-inflicted. According to reports, the child was transferred to UNC Burn Center Chapel Hill for treatment.
Officials reported that the child sustained other injuries, including bruises to his head, arms and legs. Some of the children appear to be older and still in the healing process. According to ABC 11,
According to reports, Byrd is also facing charges of felony abuse inflicting severe bodily injury, malicious castingration, and first-degree kidnapping. There are also three additional charges of child abuse with physical injury.
ABC 11 reported that Byrd, who was detained on September 30, is being held in jail under a $2million secure bond.
