“I’m hoping to do some good in the world!”

Last Halloween, my nephew was 8 years old and I attended his outdoor costume parade at elementary school. He was dressed as a Fortnite neon skeleton (apparently it’s still A Thing, my fellow olds!). His best friend was also there, although it wasn’t an intention to match. As we waited to the precession begin, I was expecting to be able to see costumes I wouldn’t understand.
Then, a tiny girl dressed in a Hogwarts costume walked past me, proudly carrying her wand. Another young grade schooler, wearing the same costume and a Gryffindor scarf, passed me. I felt warm like I’d just drunk a cup of Butterbeer. My heart grew three times larger that day, seeing nine other girls dress up as Hermione Granger by the end of the event.
