Hiker Rescued from Trapped Under Refrigerator Sized Boulder


A Montana man was hiking in Washington when he was caught by a boulder the officials described as being about the size of a refrigerator. 

Ben Delahunty was 28 years old and was hiking in Washington State’s Lake Vivine region with a companion when he became trapped by a rock. Release

The release states that the hiking partner reported the incident to RiverCom dispatch at 9:30 AM. A helicopter rescue team was dispatched to help the hiker trapped. According to the sheriff the first paramedic reached the man trapped at 12:20 p.m.

Several authorities responded to the scene to help rescue the man, and after bypassing several obstacles they were finally able to free him from the boulder at 2:20 p.m., reported the sheriff. 

With intense wind conditions, the first attempt to hoist Delahunty out of the area failed, but a second attempt at 4:45 p.m. was successful at raising the hiker out of the area, after which he was transported to the Central Washington Hospital, reports the sheriff.

According to the sheriff Delahunty sustained serious injuries to his leg, but is expected make a complete recovery.
