A Wyoming hunter accidentally shot himself in his leg fighting off a bear in Wyoming over the weekend. CBS News reported.

Sublette County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook that they received a call from a hunter who was hurt in a grizzly bear attack.

“Tip Top Search and Rescue (TTSAR) volunteers were immediately paged and were able to bring the injured man out for medical treatment,” cops said.

Cops stated that Lee Francis (65) was out hunting with his son in Rock Creek, near the Sawtooth Mountains, when a grizzly attacked him.

Lee was able draw his gun and fire several rounds. The bear disengaged and fled. Police said that Lee was hit by one of the rounds inadvertently.

Lee’s son quickly activated his SOS device for help then began providing first-aid to his dad to help control bleeding, cops said.

Police said that Lee was taken out of the scene by helicopter for further treatment.

CBS News reported that authorities could not locate the bear responsible for Lee’s attack because of the weather conditions over the weekend. CBS News reported that the search could resume this week if weather permits.

CBS News reported that this was the second time in a row that grizzly bears were killed in Wyoming.

CBS News reports that two Northwest College wrestlers were attacked and killed by a bear while searching for antlers from deer or elk in the Cody region on Oct. 15.
