Georgia’s veteran engaged in a frightening shootout with prowlers who were spotted encroaching on his house in the middle of the evening.
Whitfield Smith, who served with the U.S. Navy in Afghanistan, says he saw one of the prowlers with a gun, running across his front lawn around 2 a.m. and then meeting up with two other suspicious-looking men in the street outside his house.
“I noticed the gentleman in the gray sweater running up my driveway hunched down, holding a firearm. And that’s when I knew I had to act,”Smith.
Smith was wearing only pajama bottoms with flip flops. He grabbed his pistol and fired a warning shot.
All hell broke loose. The prowlers opened fire on his driveway. Surveillance camera captured the chaos.
Slow motion allows you to see Smith flipflop as he backpedaled. Bullets ripped into Smith’s car. He shouted at his wife to dial the police.
Smith was seen walking out of his Atlanta home, this time in sneakers and dressed. Smith was also armed, as he called it, with what he calls “the gun”. “a bigger rifle.”
The prowlers then took off.
“I could hear them trying to get away. They’re jumping over fences,”Smith.
Daylight revealed the damage to Smith’s vehicles.
Smith claims that the only thing they got away with were the laptops Smith and Smith took out of Smith’s car.
