Isiah Jones (Boxer), Dies at 28 Following Alleged Altercation With A Relative


Isiah J. Jones, a Detroit boxer, died Monday night in a dispute with his family. Roshawn Jones, his trainer, told him The Ring. He was just 28 years old. According to the Detroit Police Department., Isiah died after being shot by a relative in Detroit. There have been no arrests at this time. According to TMZ Sports

Jones had a record of 9-7 in pro boxing with three knockouts. Jones also had a amateur record of 52-2, and won the 2016 National Golden Gloves. Roshawn and Kenneth Jones helped him win his first eight fights and he went pro in 2018. After leaving the camp, he lost seven of his eight remaining fights. Andrew Murphy lost his last fight in July. Isiah competed at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand as part of Top Rank’s pandemic-era boxing cards. He also participated on the Canela-Alvarez-Callum Smith Undercard.

“Him not turning down fights, every fight that he took, the odds were stacked against him. He had enough heart and courage to take them. He could have taken the easier route and just padded his record,”Roshawn Jones spoke The Ring.Roshawn Jones wanted Isiah, because he was worried about his livelihood in Detroit, to move to Toledo and train there. “When you’re living in poverty there is more frustration, more stressful energy. When you’re poor it’s easier to get mad,” said Roshawn Jones.

Roshawn posted the news of Isiah’s passing on Instagram Tuesday morning. Roshawn wrote in the post: “Isaiah Jones (9-7-0) is a Pro Boxer out of Detroit, Michigan, a fellow member of Soul City Boxing and Wrestling Gym, our last fight was against Roy jones jr Promotion Team! Isaiah, Lost his life yesterday in a tragic event! Please keep his family in your prayers to help them get through these rough times!”
