Appreciation Before Friendship
Fonda and Tomlin had been friends before becoming close friends. Tomlin said the Washington Post2017 “I’ve been a fan of hers since before I met her…I had a Klute hairdo when she did Klute.” KluteThis 1971 thriller stars Roy Scheider and Fonda.
The two wouldn’t meet until Fonda attended Tomlin’s one-woman show entitled “Appearing Nitely,”Fonda was attracted to Tomlin throughout this period. She shared her story Vulture, “I had never seen anything like it in my life. I wanted to attach myself to her in whatever way I could. I said to myself, “I don’t want to make a movie about secretaries unless she’s in it.” Now it’s become, “I don’t want to ever work again unless she’s in it.”You can be sure that they will soon get along well.
‘9 To 5’
They became friends when they appeared together in “The Last of Us.” 9 to 5Dolly Parton is also included. In a 2015 TED talkTomlin joyfully spoke about making the film. “We laughed so much; we found we had so much in common…we found that we were so in sync as women.” Even though the two come from different worlds, Hollywood and Detroit, they’ve remained close friends ever since.
Fonda and Tomlin have both received many awards and honors throughout the years. Tomlin cheered Fonda on as she was honored at the Lincoln Center Gala Tribute. Fonda was there cheering for Tomlin in the Laughter is Best Medicine Gala at Valley Community Clinic a few more years later.
It goes on. Fonda was a presenter for Tomlin at Kennedy Center Honors. Tomlin presented Fonda with the Vanguard Awards. Both love to chat about each other.
What comes next?
Grace & Frankie reunited the two, but it’s coming to a close after seven seasons. Don’t fret, however, for the two have numerous upcoming films in the work. They’ve just finished working on revenge comedy Moving on, and they’re staring alongside Rita Moreno in the Tom Brady movie 80 for Brady. Tomlin and Fonda will continue to work together even after the end of one project.
