Jesy Nelson has hired an ‘old Little Mix songwriter’ to hopefully get her solo career back on track after facing backlash.
The 30-year-old singer received mixed reviews and accusations of cultural appropriation after releasing her first solo single Bad Boyz.
The former Little Mix singer released the track featuring Nicki Minaj last year.
The song only peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart.
Now the X Factor winner has reportedly hired the songwriter behind one of her former band’s biggest hits in a hope to make 2022 a successful year.
According to Silver Screen Beat, Jesy is teaming up with the writer behind Little Mix’s fifth number one Sweet Melody, Tayle Parx.
A source told the publication: “She has an incredible track record when it comes to writing smash hits, so Jesy is hopeful they will be able to cook up something great together.
“They knew each other via industry friends, so it seemed like a no-brainer to reach out and get her on board.”
The source claimed Jesy visited the star when in Los Angeles earlier this month.
The insider added: “It’s been a tough few months for Jesy but it finally feels like things have turned a corner.”
Tayla has also co-written hit song Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande and has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa and Christina Aguilera.
Jesy left her former bandmates Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock in 2020 to go solo.
She has previously admitted she did not enjoy creating the music video for Tayla’s Little Mix song.
Jesy said: “On the day of the Sweet Melody video I had a panic attack on set because I didn’t look how I wanted to look and I found it so hard to just be happy and enjoy myself.
“I looked at the other three and they were having the time of their life.”
