Kaitlyn Bristowe says it’s “Not OK” to Endorse Blackface Controversy

The Bachelor Recently, franchises have been subject to a lot of scrutiny for their lack of diversity in casting. There has been some backlash regarding cast members’ and contestants’ racially insensitive behavior during their respective seasons. KaitlynBristowe will be commenting on The Bachelorette season finale. She shared via Instagram her feelings that something was lacking from the finale. “The show, Erich, and Gabby, had a real opportunity to use their voice and acknowledge Blackface,”She was referring to Erich’s resurfaced photograph. [Schwer]In Blackface. After the image was discovered on Instagram, Erich had previously apologized. He then wrote:  “I was naïve to the hurtful implications of my actions to the Black community and those closest to me, and will forever regret my offensive and damaging behavior.”

Bristowe claims there are multiple ways in which the controversy could be discussed, and believes that other episodes were included for filer purposes. “I don’t think we needed to read texts from his ex, or set up a fake mansion for Zach,”She noted the lengthy discussion about Erich’s controversial messages. Zach Shallcross was also present, and he met several women from his season at the live finale. Bristowe said that those scenes were not necessary. “I think we needed to continue to evolve and show up with that many people watching. Michelle, myself, and Becca were all under the impression this would be addressed,”She added, referring to her fellow Bachelorette leads Michelle Young and Becca Kufrin. The finale was attended by all three ladies. “It wasn’t, and that’s not OK,”She said. 

Bristowe made the statement amid close friendship with Young. Young is the only Black person in history. BacheloretteAfter Rachel Lindsay and Tayshia, in the franchise. “I don’t want to speak for Michelle, but I know she committed to being the lead with a promise of change. To brush over Blackface, and act as if we didn’t have time? What message does that send?”She was curious. “Didn’t Rachel Lindsay already show us how important this is?”

There have been numerous scandals within the franchise regarding race. Matt James was the first Black lead.In The Bachelor’s He chose a suitor not of Black descent and had attended an antebellum-themed party only a few years before. This was his 25-year-old history. They eventually reconciled after their split. They have never split up, according to rumors.

Young’s season was historic, with four Black contestants making it to the final four. Although she selected her husband, they later separated. 

Lindsay came forward to claim that her season was filled by stereotypical portrayals and experiences that tried to portray her as an angry Black woman. James also claims that she was pressured to choose a Black man.
