Roy Keane, Manchester United legend, believes Romelu Lupaku is needed to “make a change”If he wants to revive his Chelsea career.
The Belgian striker was regularly hailed as the final piece of Thomas Tuchel’s puzzle when he returned to the club for a seismic £97.5million. However, the former Inter Milan forward’s second venture at the Blues has not gone to plan, as he has fallen behind Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in the pecking order,
Lukaku has not found the net for the Blues’ since their 2-0 away victory over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup quarter-final, but he did hit the post in the west Londoners’ semi-final victory against Crystal Palace. Keane says Lukaku must make a change in order to improve his chances at the Blues.
“Hit the target. Sometimes you have to ask a striker how badly do you really want to score,” Keane said, after Chelsea sealed a place in their third consecutive FA Cup Final. “His mindset… Something’s not right. He’s got to make a change though.
“It’s got to go back to the player. How badly does he want to save his Chelsea career?”
Before Chelsea’s clash against Palace, Tuchel revealed the Belgian was benched, as he was lacking match fitness. Havertz and Werner’s good form has limited Lukaku to mere appearances from the bench over the last couple of months.

And Tuchel stated his lack of regular minutes informed his decision to bench the Belgian, in what was a crucial match in Chelsea’s bid to end the season with silverware. “He is not fit enough for the intensity of our game in an FA Cup semi-final,” Tuchel said before the match when asked about Lukaku’s absence.
“It’s not easy to come into a game such as this with so much riding on it after a spell out with injury. It’s just a case of him not having as much minutes recently as the other players.
“His match fitness is not quite there otherwise there’s a big chance that he would have started today.”
