Kevin Costner Won an Emmy, but You’ll Never Guess For What

The trophy case of Kevin CostnerIt includes almost every award. His walls are filled with Academy Awards, Golden Globes and even a few Razzie Awards. You’d probably expect the Yellowstone star to own an Emmy Award, and you’d be right. It’s just not for the show you’d think.

Primetime Emmy Snubs

Numerous marquee snubs were a part of the Emmy Awards 2022. This is UsThe final season received little love, and many were shocked Mandy Moore wasn’t nominated. It was nominated for original music. Black-ishThe ceremony’s stalwart, Judith, was only nominated for contemporary hairstyles and contemporary costumes.

Disney+ received very little attention, even from the likes Peacemaker, The Book of Boba FettAnd LokiNot being able to get big awards attention. Perhaps the most shocking snub of all is Yellowstone. It is a popular western with critics and fans alike, but it didn’t win a single nomination. Costner, who plays John Dutton, has not received a nomination.

It shouldn’t surprise that Costner won almost every film award. Dances with WolvesHe won two Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. However, Jeremy Irons was awarded Best Actor. He was awarded a SAG Award. Hidden Figures and an honorary César in 2013. 

He’s also picked up six Razzie Awards along the way, winning three for The Postman1998. Costner failed. “win”The Razzie for Waterworld, however, lost to ShowgirlsIn a year that was stacked, which also included It’s Pat.

And The Emmy Goes To…

Costner received two Emmy Awards in 2012 for his production and starring roles. Hatfields & McCoys. The History Channel miniseries featured Costner battling Bill Paxton in a tale of a bitter feud in American History. It was the History Channel’s first scripted drama and received high marks from critics.

Costner won a Golden Globe award and a SAG award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. He won Outstanding Lead Actor In a Miniseries or Movie over co-star Paxton and Benedict Cumberbatch. SherlockIdris Elba, and. LutherJust to name a few. Impressive.

Yellowstone will surely have its chance to be nominated for more awards going forward, and it’s not like Costner is starved for any awards attention. Even still, it’s surprising that one of Hollywood’s most successful actors only has an Emmy for a largely forgotten miniseries.
