Upamecano’s move goes sour

Dayot Upamecano, the French centre-back who decided to leave RB Leipzig last summer, was one of the most wanted-after signings.

He was pursued by several of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, including Liverpool. But he eventually decided to move to the German giants Bayern Munich.

But things have not worked out for Upamecano in Munich – and he’s now been publically criticised by his boss Julian Nagelsmann as his struggles at the club continue.

Nagelsmann brought up his team’s concentration level as he slammed them for conceding a goal against Hertha Berliner.

Klopp’s boost

Jurgen Klopp has five important boosts in store after the international break.

Several Reds stars, including Alisson Becker and Fabinho, will be active over the next few weeks.

Star men Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are still on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations – but the rest of the Reds’ squad can put their feet up for a well-earned rest.

With the AFCON heading towards its business end, Liverpool may have their key players back. Klopp could also be set for a major return from injury.

Transfer talks held

Liverpool are believed to be in negotiations with Cody Gakpo, forward of PSV, according to reports.

Despite the fact that Anfield was open for January transfers, things have been quite quiet at Anfield.

Gakpo made his international debut last summer for Holland at Euro 2020.

As his club fights Ajax for title, the forward has been in great form in the Eredivisie. In just 15 games, he has scored six goals as well as 10 assists.

Liverpool will have to compete with Man City and Bayern Munich for his signature.
