Jurgen Klopp has been criticised following Liverpool’s Premier League encounter with Burnley.

Fabinho’s goal helped Liverpool grind out a 1-0 victory over Sean Dyche’s side on Sunday, but it was the inclusion of Sadio Mane in the Reds’ starting line-up which has been questioned by fans.

It comes as former boss Rafael Benitez has fired Liverpool a warning ahead of their Champions League tie against Inter Milan this week.

And Reds loanee Nat Phillips impressed for his side Bournemouth as he was deployed as an emergency striker in his side’s late comeback win over Blackpool in the Championship.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.

Phillips’ unusual role

Nat Phillips played in a rather unusual position as Bournemouth beat Blackpool on Saturday as he was deployed as an emergency striker by manager Scott Parker.

Bournemouth came from behind to beat the Tangerines 2-1 at Bloomfield Road – with Phillips helping his side grab the points late on.

With the Cherries losing with just five minutes left on the clock, Phillips was sent to play up front by Parker, and the tactic worked a treat as Bournemouth earned all three points thanks to goals from Jamal Lowe and Siriki Dembele.

And Phillips wasn’t the only member of Liverpool’s on-loan contingent to impress this weekend.

Inter warning

Liverpool have been sent a stern warning from former boss Rafael Benitez ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

Benitez, who has managed both sides, believes the clash will be a lot closer than many people think and Liverpool will have to make sure their stars perform if they are to book their place in the quarter-finals.

With Liverpool desperate for silverware as they aim to be crowned European champions for an impressive seventh time, the Spaniard has also revealed where the tactical battle will be won, or lost.

Klopp tactic criticised

Jurgen Klopp has been criticised for throwing Africa Cup of Nations hero Sadio Mane straight into his starting XI for the Premier League trip to Burnley last weekend.

Mane netted the winning penalty for his country Senegal and only returned to England last week as he was given time to celebrate the achievement.

But the move to start Mane so soon has been criticised by BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks – despite the fact the Reds ace having a hand in his side’s only goal as they claimed a 1-0 win.
