Carrick says he’s yet to speak with incoming Man Utd boss Rangnick

Manchester United are ever closer to having new interim boss Ralf Rangnick in the dugout, and news that he has been granted a work permit confirmed that Michael Carrick’s time in charge is over.

Rangnick is set to take charge of United’s clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday, and the experienced German will be able to assess his players for the first time.

The 63-year-old has been told he will be given funds to make adjustments to his side in January, and Rangnick could stick close to home and target the Bundesliga for stars.

There are also a list of stars nearing the exit door at Old Trafford, leaving the German with a big job on his hands between now and the end of the season.

Here Mirror Football gives you all the latest transfer news coming in and out of Old Trafford…

Rangnick eyes Nkunku

For a manager that recently spent two terms at Leipzig as manager, it’s likely that Rangnick will be looking to his former employers for talent due to the connections that he has, and Christopher Nkunku is thought to be high up on his priority list.

Rangnick will reportedly attempt to sign Nkunku who has been attracting interest for some time due to his excellent performances at Leipzig, most notably including a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City this season.

According to BILD, Nkunku was already on United’s watch-list after impressing over the past two years, and the midfield area is a priority for the club.

As Nkunku is under contract until 2024, he will likely cost United a hefty fee, and the Frenchman is valued at £43m according to Transfermarkt.

Haidara to replace Pogba?

To complete the Leipzig raid, Rangnick could attempt to sign Amadou Haidara who was brought to the club by the German back in 2018.

Haidara arrived from Red Bull Salzburg and has impressed since joining Leipzig, and according to the Daily Mail, scouts are understood to be going to watch the midfielder play against Union Berlin on Friday and against Manchester City in the Champions League next week.

With Paul Pogba’s future up in the air, Haidara could be a natural replacement for the Frenchman, and the defensive midfielder has looked extremely solid while also possessing the energy to play box-to-box.

The 23-year-old has already racked up 100 appearances for Leipzig, highlighting his experience already at a young age.

Cavani opts for Barcelona move

It was always expected that Edinson Cavani would leave United at the end of the season, but this now appears to be confirmed as the Uruguayan plans on joining Barcelona in the summer.

Cavani will be a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires, and according to The Times, the forward has reportedly always wanted to play in Spain and wants to fulfil his dreams.

Before joining United, Cavani was on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid, but the striker now may have the chance to join Barcelona, with the free move helping the financially stricken club.

Due to the tragic news surrounding Sergio Aguero’s health, Cavani could be a welcome addition to the Catalan side, who are planning a rebuild under Barcelona legend Xavi.
