Ralf Rangnick made an important discovery in the late 1-0 win against West Ham United.

Rangnick’s players have struggled to adapt to his 4-2-2 formation and intense press since his arrival at Old Trafford.

But the interim United boss has now tweaked his system – and made a startling discovery about his best midfield combination.

It all happened as Cristiano Ronaldo, star player in the Premier League win over West Ham couldn’t hide his frustration and Rangnick sent a message of support to United supporters.

Rangnick’s message for fans

Ralf Rangnick thanked Old Trafford for their support in pushing his side to victory.

Marcus Rashford, super-sub, came home in injury-time just in front of Stretford End to secure a 1-0 win that rocked Old Trafford.

The goal was a throwback to United teams of the past as the Red Devils once again claimed victory in ‘Fergie time’ – and Rangnick was left very impressed.

Ronaldo’s frustration

During Saturday’s Premier League encounter, Cristiano Ronaldo seemed rather annoyed with Mason Greenwood.

Although the forwards were often deployed together for United in this season’s campaign, they struggled to reach the same level of understanding as their rivals.

Ronaldo displayed his dissatisfaction at his younger teammate’s decisions during the West Ham match.

Ronaldo was particularly disgusted by one.

United used a 4-3-3-3 formation against Brentford, and Ralf Rangnick modified his formation against West Ham.

United has secured back-toback Premier League victories in both of these ties.

Rangnick seems to have finally found the best midfield combination that gives Rangnick new balance.

Scott McTominay and Fred have been United’s most consistent midfield partnership in recent years – but McFred now appears to have been split up and a new partnership are running things.
