Three people were killed and 11 others were injured in a mass shooting Saturday that occurred on Philadelphia’s busy South Street.
CBS 3 reported that multiple shooters opened fire on the crowd gathering on South Street. This area is known for being a popular entertainment corridor with many bars and restaurants. The Philadelphia Police Department posted a tweet stating that emergency personnel were on their way to the scene and urging residents not to go to the area.
D.F., Philadelphia Police Inspector, spoke at a press conference Sunday morning. Pace stated that a Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. “within 10-15 yards”One of the shooters fired back at the suspects when he was shot.
“The officer engaged the shooter, and as a result of that brave officer – and again we are uncertain whether he was struck or not – but the officer was able to get that individual to drop his gun and flee,”Pace.
Police claim that the suspect ran away after dropping his weapon. Officials found two guns and an extended magazine at the scene.
Two men and a woman were each shot multiple times, but they both survived their injuries. They have yet to be identified. The conditions and names of the other victims are not yet known.
Authorities hope the video captured by surveillance cameras on and around South street will lead them to the suspects.

According to the National Gun Violence Archive, at least 240 mass shootings have occurred so far in this year. A mass shooting is defined as four victims or more, not the perpetrator.
