Massachusetts girl, 14, confronts man accused of breaking into her home. She takes down his license plate for cops


A brave 14-year-old girl is being called a hero for chasing down a home invader.  

“Somebody just tried to break into my house,”Avery Cormier spoke to a 911 operator.  

“I’m home alone,”She spoke from her home in Middleborough, Massachusetts. 

Avery’s mother had already left for work and her younger sister was sound asleep when she realized someone was breaking in at 7:30 a.m.  

Next, Avery displayed nerves of steel. 

“I got him out of the house. I scared him,”She said. 

Avery took two steak knives out of the kitchen and confronted him. “I was screaming at the top of my lungs to get out of my house get out,”She said.  

Incrediblely, she had the ability to record the license plate number of the man as he drove off her driveway. 

“I took a video of his truck leaving so I have his license plate number,”She said. 

Joseph Ridge (58), was arrested in connection with the alleged burglary. Police called him a career criminal who they said recently served time on a robbery conviction before allegedly breaking into Avery’s home. Officials said he was charged with aggravated entering during the day, disorderly conduct and trespassing. 

“I think it’s very scary,”Avery spoke out about the ordeal. Avery called her actions “sinister”. “irrational,”Avery stated, “It worked out. That’s all that matters.”
