Michael van Gerwen is a darts icon. He looks absolutely stunning with his long hair at 2008 world champs

It is almost impossible to imagine Michael van Gerwen, darts legend, without his chrome-dome.

After a remarkable nine-dart win against Raymond van Barneveld, the Dutchman burst onto the scene.

Van Gerwen, who was only 17 years old, holds the record for being the youngest player to throw a nine-darter on televised television.

Although he struggled with consistency for the next few years his early career was remarkable.

He was brash, he was frighteningly talented, and as strange as it looks, he had a head full of hair … well, sort of.

Pictures of Mighty Mike from the 2008 World Championships have been released. Although we know that logically he would have had hair at some time, it doesn’t feel or look right.

His thin, auburn hair and slim figure make him appear completely different.

Van Gerwen, who had been sporting a shaved hair for several years when he won his first major PDC in 2012 had accepted the bald look with grace and style.

He won the World Darts Championship two years later, at just 24 years old. This record is still held today.

Which is weirder? Phil Taylor with a moustache or Michael van Gerwen without hair? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
