A mother is saying her son’s bright orange sneakers were what led to his miraculous rescue recently on the Mississippi River following a barge crash, according to WCCO.
Jeremy Koenig, 45 and his four children (ranging in age from 11 to 3), were fishing in Red Wing, Missouri’s Mississippi River when a barge struck their small boat. Cops stated that the incident occurred on June 3. According to cops, all four children were wearing lifejackets. Central Daily.
Witnesses claimed that Koenig, three of his four children, and Vincent, were able to make it to shore. However, Vincent was left in the water by one of his children. WCCO reported.
According to the family, Vincent, a 5-year-old boy from Vincent was able to spot himself in the dark water thanks to his bright orange sneakers.
“Vincent was stuck underneath and thank goodness he was wearing shoes with orange bottoms. Jeremy spotted his shoes and was able to find him. It is unknown how long Vincent was submerged underwater. I’m told that all the bystanders were extremely wonderful and they began CPR until EMS arrived,” the boy’s mother wrote on her Caring for the BrideWebsite
The boy is currently in Mayo Clinic and does not appear to have any brain damage. WCCO was informed by Mayo Clinic that the boy is in critical condition.
