Surprisingly the host-less format proved to be a huge success. The ceremony was performed at a much faster pace and the audience reached 29.56 million. Even though the 2020 ceremony was held less than a month prior to the outbreak of coronavirus, it did not have a host. A host was not present at the 2021 ceremony that was watched by 10.4 million people.

The Oscars will be held this year on March 27, and will recognize films that were released between March 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. This is because the eligibility period for previous Oscars was extended by the coronavirus epidemic. On February 8, the nominations will be announced. Samuel L. Jackson, Elaine May and Liv Ullman will receive honorary Oscars at the Governors Awards on January 15. Danny Glover will be presented with the Jean Hershold Humanitarian award.

Several times, the idea of having the Muppets host was brought up. The Muppets are Disney’s owners and the Disney-owned ABC broadcasts the ceremony. “I just saw that you’re planning on having a host for the Oscars this year.
